Signs
(in relation to semiotics)
Semioticians believe that:
- Everything is a sign in films
- The formula for a sign is SIGNIFIER + SIGNIFIED= SIGN
- For example, red= danger and black= evil.
We particularly focused on using signs in our film when concerned with the makeup. For example, black smudged liner on the character Agnes' mother to signify that she was a character with a dark personality due to the fact that she murdered her own daughter.
We also dressed her and Jack (the two antagonists) in dark clothing to further cement the fact that they were evil characters.
