Generic story lines of horror films

Because we are making a horror movie, I did some research into typical story lines for ideas and maybe to go against them to confuse the audience.

A horror film will usually begin with the protagonist/a group of people leaving home or going on a journey somewhere such as in 'Cabin in the woods' or 'The hills have eyes.' There will usually be a few jump scares to foreshadow that something evil is coming. The antagonist will usually begin to kill off the characters one at a time, until it is between one or a few of the characters left to fight for their lives. In the end the characters can either kill off the antagonist and live happily, the antagonist will kill them all, or the protagonists believe they have killed the antagonist but in the final shot it shows that the antagonist is still alive. This can be done as something such as Freddy Kreuger's hand appearing at the end of Freddy vs Jason.

Because the sub-genre of our film is a psychological horror, it will involve characters such as ghosts. Typical ghost movies are set in houses. There will be many jump scares and a lot of shadows used in the film. The film will usually end with the ghost being defeated, but like typical horror films it could end with the ghost not really being defeated, for example in 'Insidious' when they discover that the ghost has possessed a human. In our film, we will use similar techniques as we want to show that Agnes is still living in the house as a ghost.
