Research Into Possible Distributor For Our Film

Our film is very similar to the films,
-The others
-The woman in black
Because our film will be similar to these films, we could use a distributor that distributed one of these films. This will attract similar audiences and they will know what to expect from the film, and what conventions will be used.

The others:
This film was made in 2001 and stars, Nicole Kidman and Christopher Eccleston. In the US it was distributed by 'Dimension Films,' and in Spain it was distributed by 'Warner bros.' I think that 'Warner bros' are well knows for distributing a wide variety of films from 'Charlie and the chocolate factory' (2005) to 'The exorcist.' There is a wide audience for 'Warner bros' as they distribute action films, horrors and children films so there is something for everyone. Their aim is to give the audience more choice so they can get more money. 'Warner bros' is a 'Time Warner' company and is at the high end of the conglomerate chart. This means that the audience will expect the film to include a lot of special effects and have a verisimilitude affect, and also be a mainstream film, instead of independent. However, 'Dimension Films' are less well known compared to 'Warner bros' as they are a subsidiary, and further down on the conglomerate chart. But the films they distribute are more specific instead of a varied collection of films. Some of the well known film that 'Dimension Films' have distributed include, 'Halloween,' and 'Spy kids.' These are very different films as one is a well known horror film and the other is a children's film. However, even the children's film includes a lot of action and suspense. It proves that their films are a lot more specialized and a lot of them have a creepier effect. I think 'Dimension Films' would be a good distributor for our film as the audience can identify our film with other famous and similar horrors like, 'Scream,' and 'The others.'

The woman in black:
This film was made in 2012 and stars, Daniel Radcliffe. It was distributed by 'Momentum Pictures' in the United Kingdom, 'CBS Films' in the US and 'Alliance Films' in Canada. Because our film is English, the best possible distributor would be 'Momentum Pictures.' It has distributed a variety of well known films such as, 'The girl with the dragon tattoo,' 'Sinister' and 'Safe Haven.' They distribute both mainstream and independent films which is a positive for our film as it would only be independent as we do not have to proper equipment. Also, this means that we would be able to include what ever we wanted in our film as their audience is more specialized compared to mainstream companies. Similar horror films to ours, that they have distributed are, 'Sinister,' 'Dark skies,' and 'The woman in black.' If our film was distributed by 'Momentum Pictures,' their audience would be able to link ours with films that are similar and they would know what sort of film to expect.

In my opinion, I think that the best possible distributor for our film would be, 'Momentum Pictures.' I believe this because it has distributed both mainstream and independent films, which means that we could include what ever we want in our film without the industry telling us otherwise. To add to this, audiences that admire other films that this company has distributed might be interested in ours as the distributor is the same and it will include similar conventions and styles used in other films such as, 'The woman in black.' If our film was distributed by, 'Dimension films,' it might become more popular, however we would like to aim our film to a specific audience that are interested in certain types of horror films; therefore, I believe that, 'Momentum Pictures' would be a good possible distributor.
