Horror History

History

The first horror movie ever made was the silent short film "Le Manior du Diable" directed by Georges Melies in 1896. It was the first horror and vampire combined film and only lasted 2 minutes, yet it was loved, and so Melies took pleasure in giving more horrors to his audiences.

As horror films became more popular the budgets rose significantly because of the public fascination with horrors meaning they led to a series of serious, supernatural themed of gruesome.

In 1973 "The Exorcist" broke all records for horror films and still is said to be the most feared film to watch.

What scares us?

The high-stringed music at particular points in the film compared to without the sound/music is what creates a scary film. Without the chosen music playing, the film doesn't seem as scary.
Also camera angles and costume and make up we create with todays technology can case extremely scary effects in certain scenes.
