Treatment

Title of our film - The Intruders

Duration - 5 minutes

Audience -
We have based our film on the films, 'The others,' 'The sixth sense' and, 'The woman in black.'  'The others' is a 12, as there isn't any swearing or gore, it is mainly just scary/jumpy. 'The sixth sense' is a 15. This is because there is some gore, swearing plus it is scary. 'The woman in black,' is a 12 also because there isn't much gore, and there is no swearing. However, this film is extremely scary and there have been arguments that it should be a 15. We are aiming for a similar audience to that of, 'The woman in black,' and 'The others,' but we wish to include some very serious issues in our film. Our film will be a 15 certificate so that it will be focused at the same audiences but we will still be able to address the issues of drug and child abuse and murder. We will aim to have minimum swearing included, there will not be much gore but we'll make it scary. If we aim our film at the similar audiences to, 'The others' and, 'The woman in black,' we can take ideas from them such as the story line, the cinematography and editing so that the audience will be able to associate our film with theirs.

Distributor -
Momentum Pictures. We did this because there have been a lot of horror films distributed by this company such as, 'VHS,' 'Sinister,' and 'The woman in black,' which we are aiming our audience at. If we use a distributer that has promoted many successful horror films, then it could help us get across to the correct target audience.

Synopsis -
The film will begin with someone being hanged by two adults (we can either show it is Agnes and her parents or not). This will also be the title sequence.
In the next scene, Agnes will wake up in bed as if the events from the last scene were a dream. A figure will walk past her bedroom door and she will go to see who it is. When searching her house she finds nothing so goes to wash her face. When she looks in the mirror there will be a figure behind her, but when she turns around they will have disappeared. She just assumes she imagined it, and goes
back to bed. The next day she goes downstairs and makes herself a cup of tea, closing the door behind her. A figure is seen walking past in the back ground. When she turns around her cup has moved or is on the floor and the door is open. She has a flashback to the hanging but doesn't understand. Then she sees her friends looking through the window looking sad and nostalgic. She shouts their names but they don't see her. So she goes outside but they act as if they don't see her and shrug.
She then will go back inside and watch TV and come across the news where she will watch a news report on a young girl being hanged. She has a flashback in between, then there are some people stood beside her who disappear.
The scene will cut to an interview room where a police man walks in and the man and woman from the beginning of the film (Agnes' parents) are in there. The policeman asks why they did this to their daughter, there could be flashbacks to them beating up their daughter and throwing her in a cupboard. Then it could show the hanging of Agnes, her parents could get angry and then hang her. It cuts to Agnes back home. She could begin to hear voices. She goes to the bottom of her stairs and looks up to see a little girl staring back down at her. She begins to panic and tries to go to her door to get out but it won't open. Whilst she's doing this she could be having a flashback of the hanging. She holds her head like it hurts. She looks at her hands and sees they're covered in blood. She remembers that she is dead. The little girl could say something like, "daddy, i saw someone at the bottom of the stairs." He could say, "what do you mean?" The little girl could say, "there was a ghost." He says, "there's no such thing as ghosts." Agnes begins to fade away.
The film will finish with the new home owners doing something and Agnes can be seen in the back ground or a window.

Suggested elements -
Research into elements for horror genres
We want to create a ghost film that is unique and different to other types of psychological horrors. The fact that the protagonist in our film doesn't realise she is dead is the main twist in our film. This makes our film different because throughout the duration of the film, she believes that she is alive and the 'ghosts' she sees, are in fact the new house owners. We are aiming to combine elements of well known horror films, such as, 'The others,' 'The sixth sense' and, 'The woman in black,' to create a scary and realistic horror film. To add to this we will use a house as a setting as this is an iconic horror movie setting. We will also use a forrest as a setting for the hanging; we took this idea from, 'The conjuring.' This will make our film scarier. The flashbacks that we are wanting to use in our film will help create the correct atmosphere. We believe that the flashbacks will help bring our film together, keep the audience guessing and help the twist at the end. We want the sound in our film to be creepy and eerie. With the help of the music we believe that it will create a scary and menacing atmosphere. As well as this, it will help when we need jump scares, for instance we will use impact cuts. Also, this film is different as it can be classed as both a horror and a psychological thriller. Our aim is to let the audience decide for them selves what they think, and we are relying on the audiences beliefs to create a verisimilitude affect.
